New Report from Prison Policy Initiative Provides “Big Picture” Look at Incarceration in U.S. Criminal Justice System
According to the Prison Policy Initiative, the U.S. holds the dubious distinction of having the world’s highest rate of incarceration at 698 persons in jail of every 100,000 population.
Michigan has an incarceration rate of 641 per 100,000 persons. This ranks 30th among states.
A new report published by the Prison Policy Initiative, “Mass Incarceration: The Whole Pie,” takes a detailed look at where and why people are locked-up in the U.S. and dispels some modern myths to focus attention on the real drivers of mass incarceration.
