Join MCHR for a “fun”raiser at the Indian Village home of Stewart McMillin followed by a short update on FREEDOM TOUR 2013 and a tour of his travel museum.
The original Freedom Riders were civil rights activists who rode interstate buses into the segregated southern United States in 1961 and following years to challenge the non-enforcement of the United States Supreme Court decisions which ruled that segregated public buses were unconstitutional. High school youth from Michigan will board a bus on June 16th to follow a similar route through the south in June, visiting many of prominent civil rights sites. There is no better way to help young people develop the skills, relationships and insights they need to make a difference in our region tomorrow than to show them—in-depth—the strategies and sacrifices of yesterday and today. Come and meet the youth and adult chaperones while supporting a terrific project that seeks to make a difference both now and in the future.
