Mental Health and Human Rights in the 21st Century

In this Zoom presentation, Mental Health Association of Michigan President & CEO Marianne Huff will discuss critical mental health and treatment issues in the context of human rights. As we move into the 21st Century, mental health is finally emerging from the shadows, and the human rights of those living with mental illness are high on the agenda. Huff and other advocates are calling for parity with general health funding and a reduction of the treatment gap for people in crisis, particularly in low- and middle-income communities. However, human rights violations and widespread stigmatization of mental conditions still present significant hurdles. The good news is that treatment and care for those living with mental illness is steadily improving – but there is still much to be done.
